Reverend Nyalle Paris

Minister of the First Presbyterian Church in Invercargill
Our mission and vision

faith does not eliminate questions. but faith knows where to take them.

Welcome to the historic Invercargill Presbyterian Church, where tradition meets compassion, and community thrives in the embrace of faith and service. As the oldest Presbyterian church in Invercargill, we're proud of our rich legacy of love, compassion, and justice, reaching beyond our borders to partner with charities like World Vision and the Christian Blind Mission.

Locally, we're deeply involved in addressing the needs of Southland and Invercargill, while nationally, as part of the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand, we advocate for social justice and spiritual renewal. Join us on this journey of faith and discovery, as together, we create a brighter, more compassionate world.

 BENEFITS OF OUR CHURCH

Our church offers a sanctuary of grace, forgiveness, and redemption, providing spiritual guidance and support to help individuals navigate the complexities of life and find healing and renewal in their relationship with God and others.

We were not meant to live in isolation

We were created for fellowship with God and with others. We were not meant to live in isolation. Belonging to a faith community reminds us we are part of something bigger than ourselves. It reminds us we are loved and we belong in God’s Kingdom.

Have you ever heard the phrase you are what you eat

Have you ever heard the phrase you are what you eat? This is true of food, but also of what we choose to consume in all areas of our lives. Scripture tells us to “not be conformed to this world” (Romans 12:2). When we are in God’s presence through worship, hearing His Word through the message and feeling His love through other believers, that is how we resist the pressures of conforming to the world.

Opportunities for Volunteering and Mission Work

A Christ-centred church will emphasise the importance of serving in a variety of ways. Serving on a team or two at your church is a great way to connect with others and develop your skills as a servant leader.

Community Gatherings and Collective Worship

Worship is one of the reasons human-kind exists. We were created for to glorify God. That is our ultimate purpose. (Isaiah 43:7) A church home gives you a place to feel intimacy with God through singing and music, giving, serving and loving people.

Spiritual Nourishment and Education

Being part of a church home enables you to develop your faith. You will be encouraged and challenged to grow by learning more about God and His Word, serving others, developing Godly friendships and becoming a leader and a mentor to others. A church home gives us a place to use our talents and to grow in them through practice and learning. It gives you a place to find accountability when you need it and encouragement when times are hard.
